The sweltering summers seem to be affecting not only the humans, but also their four-legged friends. A pack of three stray dogs attacked 15 people in Govandi around 3.30 pm yesterday. The victims include a 40-year-old woman, while the rest were kids between three and eight years of age. The injured were admitted to Sion and Shatabdi hospital.

The incident occurred near a bus depot at Rafique Nagar in Shivaji Nagar, when the three canines apparently pounced upon bystanders and commuters unprovoked. The victims were taken to Govandi's Shatabdi hospital around 4 pm. Six of them, who had sustained serious dog bites on their limbs, were transferred to Sion hospital. Nine others who had minor bite marks and scratches were treated in outpatient department (OPD) of Shatabdi hospital.

Dr Avinash Supe, dean, Sion hospital, said, "Four patients were admitted here after being administered anti-rabies injections, while two others took DAMA (discharge against medical advice)." "The patients were attacked by a pack of two to three stray dogs next to a bus depot in Shivaji Nagar. Of the 15 victims, 14 are children. Nine of them sustained minor injuries and were administered anti-rabies shots here, while the others were shifted to Sion hospital as they had sustained serious bite injuries," said Dr Ashok Shejwalkar, chief medical officer at Shatabdi hospital.
