In the midst of currency crisis, here's something to cheer about. While the union ministry for road transport and highways has extended the toll suspension till November 18 midnight, the state has extended the date for accepting Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes for electricity and water bills by another 15 days.

Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari tweeted on Monday evening, "Toll suspension is extended till 18th November midnight across all National Highways."

A number of motorists who pass via toll plazas were facing a huge problem since November 9 as toll booth staff were not getting change for Rs 500 or Rs 1,000 notes, resulting in long lines and frayed tempers. To address this, the government had taken a decision on November 9 that toll plazas across all states and along all national highways would be shut till November 11 midnight. The toll waiver was further extended by 72 hours (till November 14 midnight), and thereafter till November 18.
