Two persons were crushed under a trailer truck and the iron rods it was carrying around 8 am yesterday on the Pune-Bangalore highway near Sun City Housing Society.


Two persons were crushed under a trailer truck and the iron rods it was carrying around 8 am yesterday on the Pune-Bangalore highway near Sun City Housing Society.

According to officials, the truck (MH-06-AQ-5523) was headed towards Mumbai from from Kolhapur and was loaded with raw materials made of iron.

Police Sub-Inspector GM Ghadge said the vehicle, which was plying on the Mumbai-bound lane, suddenly, entered the Bangalore lane after crossing a divider and started going in the opposite side.

The driver then lost control and the truck turned turtle crushing morning jogger Yusuf Mirajkar (65), a resident of the nearby Sun Paradise society, and a cyclist Pandurang Keshav Shukla.

Both bodies were mangled beyond recognition as the heavy iron rods along with the trailer fell on them. Mirajkar's body was identified by his son and Shukla's body was claimed by his son-in-law.

The driver, Santosh Yadav (30), was driving alone and was also injured and is recuperating at the Mai Mangeshkar Hospital in Warje.

Prabhakar Umbratkar, fire officer from the Kothrud fire brigade, said they received a call around 8.20 am and so, the accident must have taken place half-an-hour ago.
