A day after four persons, including three women, were killed in a building collapse incident in Uttam Nagar area of west Delhi, the police have arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in the collapse.

A senior police official said that Devendra Kalra, owner of the plot adjacent to the four-storied building, and his partner Tarun Chawla, were held on Sunday. The official added that three more persons - Dayal Chawla, Shiv Sodi and Kishan Sodhi - are on the run. A case has been lodged under section 304 (Punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of Indian Penal Code.

Rooprani Sharma (60), her daughter-in-law Richa (40), and her two-year-old grandson Jai and building owner Savita Sharma (54), died in the incident. Rooprani Sharma's son Gagan suffered critical injuries.u00a0Rooprani's family lived on the ground floor of the building while Savita, who belonged to another family, lived on one of the other three floors.

According to police, the owner of an adjacent plot, which already had a storey and half built on it, was illegally trying to construct a basement, weakening the structure which collapsed.u00a0The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Saturday ordered a vigilance inquiry into the incident and two engineers were suspended for negligence.
