US President Barack Obama on Monday backed India's bid for a permanent United Nations Security Council seat.
Addressing the Indian parliament, Obama said: "I look forward to a reformed United Nations Security Council that includes India as a permanent member."
Meanwhile, holding that India was 'indispensable' to the US, President Barack Obama said the relationship between the two countries was 'unique'.
India is 'indispensable' to the US, he said in his address to members of parliament from both houses.
"The relationship between our countries is unique. Our constitutions begin with the same words: We the people. Both our countries are dedicated to the concepts of liberty, justice and equality," Obama said.
"India and the US are indispensable partners in meeting the challenges of our time," Obama said. "I was proud to invite Prime Minister (Manmohan) Singh for the first state visit of my presidency."
