As a token his appreciation, Commissioner Shankar Bidari has announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for the west division police.

During their Crime Prevention Week, the division solved 121 cases and arrested 71 accused and managed to solve 30 chain snatchings, three robbery, 10 extortion and 38 thefts.

The police have recovered goods worth Rs 1.04 crore, which include 2,364 grams of gold valuables, two kgs of silver, 15 laptops, 39 mobile phones, five four wheelers and 31 two wheelers.

The commissioner also awarded Rs 10,000 to HA Patil, a police constable, who with the help of two pedestrians chased and caught two bike-borne chain snatchers who were fleeing after robbing a woman.

Bidri also announced Rs 5,000 reward to Inayath Pasha, a cloth merchant and Kumar, a KPTCL driver who helped the constable catch Sadiq Ahmed and Akbar Nawaz on December 3.

With the arrest of the two, the Chandra Layout police have solved five chain-snatching cases and recovered 224 grams of gold chains, a dagger and an air pistol from them.

"The commissioner's gesture in the form of reward is a to thank general public who help the police prevent anti-social activities, and encourage participation from the public," Chandra Layout Police Inspector Rajendra said.
