Rock star to begin Feb tour from Pune, but 10 pm deadline may play spoilsport

Rock star Bryan Adams is all set to kick off his country tour from the city in February, but the big question is whether the night deadline will again play spoilsport.

Rock On: Bryan Adams will tour the country in February

Nightlife in the city these days is under tremendous pressure from the police, who do not let programmes drag even a minute beyond the 10 pm cut-off time. At a lounge at Koregaon Park in August, the police stopped a concert by international artists in 20 minutes because of the deadline.

The Bryan Adams show organiser said the singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer had agreed to the request to begin his tour from the city.

"We are indeed very happy to host the Bryan Adams show at Amanora," said Aniruddha Deshpande, MD, City Corporation Ltd. "We convinced him to inaugurate his tour from Pune, because so far Pune hadn't witnessed a major rock show. After this initiation, I am sure more such programmes will be organised."

DCP Sanjay Jadhav (Zone IV) said the law of the land was supreme and permission would be given for the show strictly in accordance with the Supreme Court decision on such matters.

"No permission for loudspeakers will be given after 10 pm," said Jadhav.

Deshpande, during the official announcement of the show, said they were not making money out of the concert.

"We are constructing an arena for 30,000 people in the township, with sufficient parking and food stall areas," said Deshpande. "These kinds of events involve more than million dollars."

The preparation for the concert began two months ago and will continue for two months more.
