Eight students of the College of Agriculture (CoA) Pune booked for ragging four first-year students were arrested yesterday. The students, who were on their semester break, were called to Shivaji Nagar police station where they were arrested and later produced in the sessions court.

The eight ufffd Sailaj Sahiji Wagh, Chetan Gautam Waghmare, Vinod Goraknath Kastare, Vikas Rameshwar Kakade, Sachin Yashwant Raut, Deepak Jaisingh Wagh, Gajanand Narayan Garand and Venkath Shivaji Bharangeu00a0 ufffd got bail on a surety amount of Rs 10,000 each around 4.30 pm.

Police Inspector Maya Bankar of Shivaji Nagar police station said, "We had told the parents that the students need to be produced in the police station by Tuesday. The students accompanied by their parents reached the station around 10 am and we later arrested them. They were produced in the court around 4 pm. The students will have to be present at the police station on Monday, failing which action will be taken against them."

The College of Agriculture authorities refused to comment on the arrest of their students.

Dr B R Ulmek said, "I am aware that the students have been arrested but none of the parents have approached us. I would not like to comment any further on the issue."

First year students are happy following the arrest of their seniors. They maintain that this will definitely teach the students a lesson.

"Not just the seniors, even the juniors will know the consequences of ragging now. We will become seniors next year and it's a lesson for us too. We are happy that the second year students will no more bother us," said a student on the condition of anonymity.
