Unidentified masked men leave empty handed; leave gas-cutting machine, oxygen cylinder behind
Burglars who wanted to steal cash from a Bank of India ATM machine in Khadki panicked and took to their heals abandoning their gas cutting equipment hearing the shrill sound of the alarm which went off as the men went about their business.
Covered faces
The burglars who were dressed in denim trousers and T-shirts left the site in a hurry and left their belongings like oxygen cylinders and gas cutters behind. The incident took place on Sunday around 3.30 am.
Assistant Police Inspector SB Paul, who is investigating the case, said, "Security guard Vishram Shripati Kadam was on his night round of the bank premises, when two masked burglars entered the ATM cubicle and started cutting through the metal of the ATM machine with a gas cutter. Kadam noticed their movement on CCTV footage and contacted the police. Meanwhile, the alarm attached to machine went off, and the panic burglars fled the spot."
API Paul said, "We have scanned the CCTV footage. The men were masked, so all we can see of them is their eyes. However, we should be able to nab them soon because they left some belongings behind. We are checking the manufacturing details on the gas cylinders."
On 27 October, last year, unidentified thieves lifted the Union Bank ATM machine in Kasarwadi that had about Rs 11 lakh in cash inside. The police are yet to make headway in the case. Incidentally, the ATM cubicle did not have a CCTV camera.
