Australian Army chief Lieutenant General Simon Stuart is currently on an official visit to India from August 11 to August 14, 2025, aimed at boosting bilateral defence cooperation, an official statement said.

As part of his itinerary, Lt Gen Stuart visited the Southern Command Headquarters in Pune, where he met Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief.

"The two senior officers held discussions on joint training exercises, military exchange programmes, and shared perspectives on future warfare. The meeting reaffirmed both armies' commitment to strengthening strategic and operational ties," the statement said.

It said that Lt Gen Stuart also visited the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA) at Khadakwasla.

Addressing the cadets on the topic "Collective Security: An Era of Great Power Competition", he spoke about the need for interoperability, mutual trust, and coordinated response in today's complex global security environment.

On August 14, the Australian Army Chief is scheduled to visit Bharat Forge Limited, where he will be introduced to India's indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities. He will also take part in other defence engagement activities before returning to New Delhi, the statement said.

The visit highlights the deepening strategic partnership between India and Australia, and their shared focus on promoting a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific region, the official statement said.
