His suggestion of revolving gates at Bundgarden lock-up yet to get PWD clearance
Nearly three months after the escape of Papul (22) alias Chor Raja from the Bundgarden police station, the lock-up is undergoing renovation.u00a0
However, suggestions made by Minister of State for Home Ramesh Bagwe, which included installing a revolving gate, will not be incorporated.
Bagwe made a surprise visit days after Chor Raja's escape. He had recommended installing a revolving gate at the entrance of the lock-up. Inside sources said the changes are not in accordance with Public Works Department (PWD) rules.
The Bundgarden police station lock-up has a capacity to house 12 inmates and will be renovated in order to ensure better safety.
"For the last three days routine colouring and repair work has been undertaken. The lock-up is expected to remain closed for two more days," Senior Inspector Suhas Nadgauda said.u00a0u00a0
"The current work inside the lock-up has nothing to with the run-away incident. We have submitted the report based on Honorable Minister's suggestions and are awaiting PWD's reply."
Dacoity suspect Raj alias Rajeshram Papul was arrested by crime branch with six other accomplices foru00a0 planning a dacoity. He was remanded to police custody and was kept at the Bundgarden police station lock-up. He ran away on August 21.
The police said that the incident took place when one of the constables opened the main gate of the lock-up. He was updating the board, when Papul brushed him aside and ran away.
