One of the three accused arrested in connection with the robbery at Ashok Vihar has revealed they received the details about the jeweller from an accomplice identified as Jitesh alias Jitu, whose girlfriend worked with the ICICI Bank's Ashok Vihar branch.

The accused also confessed to have followed the jeweller for about 15 days hoping to catch the victim with the sum he had withdrawn from the bank.

On December 16, Puran Chand Agarwal, a jeweller and his daughter-in- law Jyoti were leaving their Ashok Vihar residence to deposit Rs 1.55 core in the Patel Nagar branch of the HDFC Bank when three persons on a motorcycle allegedly robbed them at gunpoint.

On Monday, cops claimed they arrested three persons identified as Vikas Aggarwal alias Vicky, Praveen Goyal alias Vipin and Harshit Prabhaklar from Multan Nagar in northwest Delhi and recovered Rs 70,00,000 from Vicky, Rs 30,00,000 from Praveen and Rs 25,00,000 from Harshit. The latter was arrested from Liberty Cinema.u00a0

The robbery

According to the police, a day before the robbery, the three saw Agarwal carry two bags containing cash into his house. After that they hatched the conspiracy to rob the jeweler.

On the day of the incident, they took positions around the jeweller's house at about 8.15 am. "To avoid suspicion, Vikas gave a pair of jeans to the local washer man to be ironed and stood in front of the jeweler's house pretending to wait to take the garment back. When the businessman and his daughter-in-law were loading the cash bags in their car, Praveen robbed them at gunpoint and fled with the bags. They met at Rama Vihar where they distributed the booty.u00a0 The plan was chalked out by Deepak Gogia, the head of the Gogia gang. Gogia is on the run but we are searching for him and the other accused," said Karnal Singh, joint commissioner of police (Northern) range.
