At least 15 passengers were injured when the Gorakhpur-Muzaffarpur train collided head-on with an engine being shunted at the Sugauli railway station in Bihar's East Champaran district early Saturday morning.

At least 15 passengers were injured when the Gorakhpur-Muzaffarpur train collided head-on with an engine being shunted at the Sugauli railway station in Bihar's East Champaran district early Saturday morning.

The accident occurred around 5:30 am when the train, which was about to halt, hit the engine being shunted to the rear of the Raxaul-Sugauli passenger train at the Sugauli railway station, railway sources said.

Of the 15 injured, five were discharged after first aid and the rest were admitted to a government hospital at Sugauli.

"None of those hospitalised are in a serious condition," a spokesman for the East Central Railway said. The spokesman said a statutory inquiry, possibly by the commissioner railway safety, was likely to be instituted to look into the cause of the accident and fix accountability.

The accident comes barely hours after nine persons were killed when 13 bogies of the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express from Howrah derailed near Jajpur in Orissa.
