A TV channel aired the visuals of BJP legislator Suresh Gowda allegedly luring SR Srinivas, JD(S) MLA, by offering money, before Kumaraswamy released the CD to media yesterday. While the incident created a flutter in the political circles, insiders in the JD(S) said the party leaders were ready with some visual evidence against the 11 disqualified BJP MLAs, who are now with Kumaraswamy, so that they could be controlled in case they try cross the fence.

A switchover?
"While the court verdict on the disqualification is reserved, some of the MLAs are indicating switching over to the Yeddyurappa camp," said sources. "To avoid this leaders have built up evidence potential enough to ruin their political careers. And they are using this as a stick against them."

Although the evidence was not revealed, it is suspected that the CD contained visuals of money being accepted from unknown persons. A source said there were even visuals of sex romp involving some of the legislators.

"They have already taken tens of thousands of rupees and there is a risk that they may change camps," said a senior JD(S) leader, who was active in the coup engineered by Kumaraswamy. "Some safety measures had to be taken," he added.

Hearing the case on disqualification, a single member bench of V G Sabayat, in the high court, reserved the judgment yesterday. It was referred to this bench after a two-member bench had given a split verdict. In case the court quashes the ruling of the speaker K G Bopiah disqualifying these MLAs, they will be continue as BJP legislators and Kumaswamy had to make them resign, as per his plan to topple Yeddyurappa government.

Wait and watch
And this is where the hitch that the JD(S) leaders expecting. Their apprehension is that some of them may change their minds once their disqualification is struck down.

As if to endorse this, a senior BJP leader confirmed that at least five among the disqualified BJP MLAs were in touch with the leaders from Yeddyurappa camp.

"Wait for the court verdict. If their disqualification is upheld, their political careers will be ruined, as they are not allowed to contest elections for next six years. Otherwise, some of them may join us,"
he said.

Changing camps

M Narayanaswamy, a Congress MLA, resigned yesterday. This was the second Congress MLA after Ramachandra, who left the party to join hands with the BJP as a part of 'Operation Lotus' that is luring legislators from Opposition parties to stabilise the government. Sources said eight more MLAs from Congress and three from the JD(S) were lined up to switch camps. M C Aswath, a JD(S) MLA, had resigned earlier this week.
