Book yourself for the next four days as the famous Kannada theatre group Sanketh brings on stage two plays Naa Tukaram Alla and SankramanaFor all those who believe that theatre is best expressed in your mother tongue, here is good news for you. This week Sanketh, a local theatre group and the brain child of late Kannada actor Shankar Nag will bring to you two Kannada plays Naa Tukaram Alla or (I Am Not Tukaram) and Sankramana (It's a Tough Time), both directed by well known theatre personality S Surendranath.
A still from Naa Tukaram AllaThough different in style and presentation, both plays are an attempt to mirror the thoughts and feelings of various generations in contemporary society.
Describing both plays as sarcastic and humorous, Surendranath says, "These plays differ in style and approach but both question the values of human life. Naa Tukaram Alla is realistic and talks about issues that old people face and Sankramana brings out how truth varies for different individuals."
Set in Lalbag, Naa Tukaram Alla revolves around two men, who are old in body and not in mind. As the narrative explores their bonding, the play takes a peek into the world of these two men and their dealings with the changes that old age has imposed on them.
On the other hand, Sankramana comprise three monologues by a father, mother and the son. Their soliloquies reveal how diverse the nature of their problems is and their ways of solving them. As the play progresses, it attempts to show how perspectives and the concept of life has changed through generations.
Explaining that Sankaramana follows the style of the path breaking Japanese film Rashoman by Akira Kurosawa, director Surendranath reveals, "Like the film, the playu00a0 shows how a single problem can be perceived from three angles. It also says that what is an issue for me might not be a problem for you."
Not only the content but the cast of both these plays may prove to be another reason for you to rush to the theatres. Sankramana will feature prominent theatre personalities like Sihikahi Chandru, Manjunath Hegde and Kalpana Naganath while Naa Tukaram Alla has on stage Yenagi Nataraj, the son of legendary theatre personality Yenagi Balappa and Megha Naadiger among others.
