The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday conducted a search at the residence of KK Chandravanshi, also known as KK Chandrakar, a former personal assistant to former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, as part of a money-laundering investigation linked to alleged irregularities in the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC), reported the IANS.

According to IANS sources, a team of around five to eight ED officials reached Chandravanshi's residence in the Old Bhilai area of Durg district at around 6 am. The officials arrived in two vehicles and began examining documents and other material at the premises.

Security personnel were deployed outside the residence during the operation. The ED has not yet officially disclosed details of the material being examined or any findings from the search.

Probe linked to CGPSC exam irregularities

The searches are part of a wider ED operation at seven locations across Chhattisgarh. The action was initiated by the agency's Raipur zonal office based on specific intelligence and was carried out with the assistance of security forces and state police, as per the IANS.

The investigation relates to alleged leaking and manipulation of question papers for the CGPSC State Service Examinations conducted in 2020 and 2021.

Former CGPSC chairman arrested

The latest searches come after the ED arrested former CGPSC chairman Taman Singh Sonwani on July 25 in connection with the money-laundering investigation.

The ED's case is based on a 2024 FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), following a complaint filed by the Chhattisgarh Police after a change of government in the state, according to the IANS.

Chandravanshi's role under scrutiny

Chandravanshi, who was originally a Grade-1 officer in the Agriculture Department, had served as Baghel's personal assistant for an extended period.

The search could intensify the political debate in Chhattisgarh, with the possibility of protests by the Congress. However, the ED has not yet issued an official statement on the outcome of Tuesday's searches, the news agency reported.

The search operation was still underway when this report was filed. Further details are expected after the ED completes its examination and releases official information, the news agency reported.
