Three individuals who recently arrived in Chhattisgarh's Durg district from African countries affected by Ebola have been placed under 21-day home isolation as a precautionary measure, health officials said on Thursday, reported PTI.
Authorities clarified that none of the travellers are showing symptoms of Ebola virus disease and there is no known history of contact with infected individuals. The isolation measure has been implemented in line with standard public health protocols for international travellers arriving from regions experiencing Ebola outbreaks, reported PTI.
According to Durg Collector Abhijeet Singh, one woman returned from the Democratic Republic of the Congo on May 31, while two other travellers arrived in Bhilai on June 2 from Ethiopia and Uganda, reported PTI.
Officials said that two of the travellers are Indian nationals, while the third is a Ugandan citizen. All three have been advised to remain in home isolation for 21 days despite showing no signs of illness.
The collector stated that the individuals are currently in good health and have not reported any symptoms associated with Ebola infection.
District health authorities have initiated regular monitoring of the three returnees. Officials are conducting telephonic follow-ups twice every day to assess their health status and ensure compliance with isolation guidelines, reported PTI.
Information regarding their condition is being collected every morning and evening. Health teams are also providing medical guidance and counselling throughout the monitoring period.
Authorities have instructed the travellers to immediately report any symptoms or discomfort to the tracing team, district health department, control room or the office of the Chief Medical and Health Officer.
Durg Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Manoj Dani said travellers arriving from Ebola-affected countries are being screened and categorised according to their risk level.
Under the classification system, Category 1 includes individuals with no symptoms and no history of contact with Ebola patients. Category 2 covers asymptomatic travellers who may have had contact with infected individuals, while Category 3 consists of travellers exhibiting symptoms associated with the disease.
According to officials, all three returnees in Durg have been placed under Category 1, indicating that they are asymptomatic and have no known exposure to confirmed Ebola cases, reported PTI.
Health authorities said international passengers arriving from countries affected by Ebola are undergoing clinical screening at airports before being allowed to continue their journey.
The precautionary measures are intended to detect potential cases early and prevent any possible spread of infection. Officials emphasised that home isolation and monitoring are standard preventive protocols and do not indicate that the travellers are infected.
Officials confirmed that no case of Ebola virus disease has been detected in Chhattisgarh so far. The state health department continues to monitor international arrivals and coordinate with central health authorities regarding developments related to the outbreak, reported PTI.
The heightened surveillance comes after the World Health Organization on May 17 declared the Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
Health officials have urged the public not to panic and said all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure public safety while maintaining close monitoring of travellers arriving from affected regions.
