Meanwhile, the surroundings of the statue attracted so much garbage that the BBMP recently decided to spend Rs 15,000-a-month to deploy three security personnel to ensure the place is clean.
The 15-ft statue of Sangolli Rayanna, a close confidant of Kittur Rani Channamma, was sanctioned by the state government in 2005 and completed in 2008 and has been under wraps since then.

As the statue was under cover and exposed to the elements, people began to use it as an open-air urinal. T Some homeless families also began using the foot of the statue as a makeshift home.
Security person Ganesh Naidu said, "When I was deputed here, I found it extremely filthy. People tried to abuse the place as they always have but we stopped them with some difficulty.
Rayanna was just 33-years-old when he sacrificed his life for the nation. Butthey continue to delay the unveiling of the statue."
The BBMP also planted trees around the statue to beautify the statue. Dinesh Gundurao, MLA, Gandhinagar, said, "The CM has not been able to give us a date.
This is what has caused the delay. They will probably unveil the statue next month," said SK Nataraj, the mayor.
We put the security in place to protect the statue. We hope to put all these problems behind us and unveil the statue as early as possible."
