Yeddyurappa may be safe for now, but detractors are planning a new strategy to pull the rug from underneath him, say sources

While the chief minister seems to be relaxed after having achieved moderate success in the panchayat polls, political turbulence is likely to return to haunt him as his detractors are ready with a fresh plan to send more trouble his way.

According to sources, after a series of failed attempt to displace B S Yeddyurappa, his political rivals are now planning to try a new trick, and this time it will be a legal salvo.

A section of BJP led by Reddy brothers have understood to have joined hands with the Congress leaders in hatching the plan, while the JD(S) seems to be playing a supporting role.

A Reddy camp insider said the plan would be on the lines of the strategy laid down to corner former IT minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, who resigned after the Lokayukta filed an FIR against him in a land scam.

"The CM is facing similar charges, and we are exploring the possibility of obtaining the Governor's sanction to prosecute him," said the source. "Once we do it, he can't remain in power."

Recently, a group of lawyers had approached Governor H R Bharadwaj, seeking sanction to prosecute the chief minister in the land scam. According to sources, it was only a precursor of what is to come.

More drama
This was followed by dramatic developments in the political circles. Arun Jaitly, leader of opposition in the Rajyasabha and in-charge of state's BJP affairs, came down from Delhi to meet Bharadwaj and the chief minister, who were at loggerheads.

Following this,u00a0 the CM visited Bhardwaj at the Rajbhavan and said that he would meet him once in 15 days to update him on the state administration and would seek his guidance.

"We know it is a tough task, but we will give it an earnest try this time," said the source. "It has serious political ramifications and needs a strong will to achieve it. It all depends on what steps the Congress high command takes at the crucial moment."

He hoped their attempt would be successful because top leaders in the BJP were backing them. Yeddyurappa, who addressed a media conference after the poll results were announced yesterday, said that he was aware of the conspiracy, and was ready with a counter strategy.

"They thought we would fare badly in the panchayat polls, but the results proved them wrong. Now they will try to trouble me through all possible means, but they won't be successful," he said.
