Rakesh Omprakash Mehra'su00a0 Delhi 6 may not have been able to ignite many sparks among the audience, but it sparked off angry protests in Delhi on Sunday.
The Valmiki Samaj of Delhi was up in arms against certain dialogues involving an untouchable sweeper girl Jalebi, played by Divya Dutta, which allegedly contain "objectionable words". The angry protesters rallied outside the Valmiki Mandir at Panchkuian Road demanding that the word "bhangi" be removed from the film. They also lodged an FIR at the Mandir Marg police station in New Delhi.
"We had protested six days ago when the film was released and sent a notice to Buta Singh, chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes. He is yet to reply. We'll meet him on Monday," said Sultanpuri MLA Jai Kishan.
"The activists have threatened to burn down theatres screening the film at Daryaganj and Connaught Place," Jai Kishan added.
Meanwhile, director of the movie Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra denied that the word bhangi has been used in his film. "The protest is baseless. There has been no mention of that word," Mehra said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Shankar Das said, "I am waiting for Buta Singh's report. Then, action will be taken accordingly."
