The Delhi police arrested 7 people with 155 kg of ganja worth Rs 5 lakh in the international market. Dheeraj, 30, Sonia, 28 (name changed), Seema,19 (name changed), Tilak Raj, 24, Ajit, 19, Sonu, 27 and Neeraj , 24, were travelling in a Tavera car with the drugs. The ganja had been brought from Cuttack in Orrisa.

"We received information about the smuggler Dheeraj and his gang. Our team processed that intelligence about the drugs and we laid a trap to catch the smugglers. The police team saw the suspects in a Tavera car.

The suspects were travelling with two girls and it seemed like a family trip. In this way they had managed to avoid several check posts. Then at 8.50 pm on August 24 the police team approached the suspects and they checked their car. They were carrying 155 kg of ganja which costs 5 lakh rupees in the international market.

An FIR was lodged at the Crime Branch police station and all of the 7 people including 2 girls were arrested. In the primary interrogation the accused revealed that a person known as Punia, operates from Cuttack in Orissa," said a police officer.

According to the police, Punia is a major supplier of drugs and he operates in various parts of the country. The accused were travelling with girls to avoid the police. The car in which the accused were travelling was hired from an agency in Rohini.

In another incident the crime branch recovered 77 kg of poppy husk and arrested 4 people. "The Narcotics Cell of Crime Branch has recovered 72 Kg of poppy husk from Rind Road near Punjabi Bagh, brought by two Gwalior residents, Suraj (19) and Shankar Chauhan (19). They were apprehended while delivering the consignment to Zubair Khan (32), a worker at a shop at Khari Baoli, Delhi and Mohd. Ayyaz Khan (22) of Raghubir Nagar, Delhi.u00a0 All the four persons were arrested and a case FIR (No. 125/10 u/s 15/29 NDPS Act) has been registered at the Crime Branch police station," the officer added.
