Pune's deputy director of education Suman Shinde, who oversees the Std XI Centralised Admission Process, has sent an official proposal to the state government, with the aim to minimise outside interference in the induction of students at colleges

The ugly episode at Sir Parshurambhau (SP) College regarding the illegal admission of about 80 students, carried out at the behest of principal Dr Dilip Sheth - who later had to quit his post - , may have had a positive outcome.

From next year, the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for Std XI is likely to go online.u00a0Deputy director (education) Suman Shinde, who supervises CAP, sent an official proposal in this regard to the state government on October 14.

The letter reads, "Since 1996, PMC and PCMC have been running CAP for Std XI. Every year, around 64,000 students in both these areas get admission through the process.

However, from 2014-15 academic year, like Mumbai, we are submitting our proposal to introduce online system in overall admission process."

Speaking to MiD DAY, assistant director of education Balasaheb Owhal said, "With the introduction of the online system, there would be little room for outside elements to interfere in the CAP.

Besides, this would also minimise the overall duration of the admission procedure, which will ultimately help start Std XI curriculum on time."

According to sources, after Mumbai successfully implemented the online system, a similar proposal was first discussed in Pune about three years ago.

"As the Pune office witnessed incessant transfers of deputy directors, the bid to introduce the online procedure in CAP never even came on paper.

I am happy that at last I have managed to send the proposal to the state government," said a top official of CAP on condition of anonymity.
