Crime Branch sources revealed that the arrested Nigerians are part of the inter-state drug peddling racket that is part of a bigger drug cartel operating from Delhi.

One of the drug peddlers was nabbed while he was waiting for his customers outside the coffee shop on Cunningham Road

Following a tip off, a team of officials nabbed 24-year-old Chigindu Emakachiku alias Kelvin, while he was waiting for customers outside a popular coffee outlet on Cunningham Road.

Starting out

The police recovered 110 grams of cocaine and a mobile phone from him. Kelvin, who came to Bangalore for the treatment of his brother a year ago, reportedly stayed back in a rented house on Sarjapura Road.

It was during his stay in the neighbourhood that he came in contact with a Delhi-based drug peddler.

He started peddling drugs in Bangalore and soon managed to build a customer base comprising several high-profile addicts.

Kelvin reportedly carried out his business over the phone. He met his clients in reputed restaurants in the city, where he also delivered drugs to them.

The police have seized Kelvin's mobile phone, which is believed to have numbers of his clients and of other members involved in the drug racket.

Accomplice held

During interrogation that followed Kelvin's arrest, the police arrested Ogugua Benneth (25) who had been staying in a rented room in a reputed city hotel.

"He used to peddle drugs from the hotel. He is also from the same ring as Kelvin. He has been peddling drugs in the city for the last seven months," an officer involved in the arrests said.

Ogugua was nabbed near Kalpaka Arcade near Hotel Empire on Church street. The police recovered 118 grams of cocaine, Rs 30,500 in cash and a mobile phone from him.

"We are investigating further and hope to expose the drug ring soon," said a Crime Branch officer.

Officers at the Cubbon Park police station, where Kelvin and Ogugua have been held, refused to come on record or be quoted in the case.
