Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde has urged the party's office-bearers and workers across the country to focus on public service and take its welfare initiatives to the "last person" in society.
Shinde made the remarks while addressing a review meeting of Shiv Sena state presidents from different parts of the country on Wednesday. He described the party as one that represents the common man and fights for people's rights.
During the meeting, Shinde announced that Shiv Sena would donate ambulances across 25 states as part of its public welfare initiatives.
Shinde directed party leaders to actively take up issues affecting people in their respective states, including education, sports, employment, women's welfare, healthcare, drinking water, roads and agriculture.
He said party office-bearers should take the initiative to resolve day-to-day civic problems such as water shortages, damaged roads, inadequate healthcare facilities, solid waste management, maintenance of schools and the availability of clean public toilets.
Shinde also said leaders should be prepared to lead agitations in the "Shiv Sena style" when required to secure justice for citizens.
To strengthen the party's grassroots presence, he called for state-level sports competitions to be organised across various states in the coming months.
Shinde instructed state chiefs to complete appointments of key organisational functionaries without delay. These include state-level office-bearers, women's wing chiefs, Yuva Sena leaders and heads of other affiliated organisations.
He also directed state presidents to submit a concrete action plan to the party leadership within two months. The plans are expected to take into account the political and social conditions of individual states as well as upcoming elections.
The Shiv Sena chief called for a nationwide membership drive to expand the party's presence down to villages and households. He stressed that strengthening the organisation up to the booth level and assisting people during difficult times should remain a key priority.
According to the statement, Shiv Sena state chiefs also expressed their intention to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday and his 25 years of public service through welfare activities.
As part of the proposed service week, the party plans to organise blood donation camps, health check-up drives and job fairs for young people across the country. Notebooks and educational materials will also be distributed among underprivileged students.
Shinde reiterated that Shiv Sena workers should focus not only on electoral politics but also on social welfare and direct public engagement.
