Former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh has declared that he will form a new party. The veteran politician is hopeful for a seat arrangement with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) if the farmers' protest is resolved ahead of the polls.

Taking to microblogging site Twitter, Singh's media advisor Raveen Thukral quoted him as saying, "Will soon announce the launch of my own political party to serve the interests of Punjab & its people, including our farmers who've been fighting for their survival for over a year".

As per Thukral, the ex-CM of Punjab also said he cannot rest till he can secure the future of the people and his state and Punjab needs political stability and protection from other states.

After resigning as CM, Singh had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor (NDA) Ajit Doval but had categorically ruled out joining the BJP.
