Delhi police have busted a racket involving domestic helps here. Various articles and documents related to the agency were also confiscated and three people -- Jai Prakash, Bharat and Vinod, residents of Uttam Nagar were arrested. The agency, Archana Maid Bureau, was also based in Uttam Nagar but it functioned across various states.

The case came to light when a complaint was received on October 24 from Vasant Kunj's S K Rathi. He saw an advertisement of the bureau in a pamphlet that accompanied the newspaper on October 21. He then contacted the proprietors. Next day, a person called Sameer alias Ramesh approached him and left one Sunita Kumari to work at his home. Sameer took a hefty commission from the family. The maid ran away with some cash and other belongings from the house the very next day.

It was disclosed during the investigation that the mobile numbers mentioned on the pamphlets were obtained against bogus identities. On sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed that they started the agency with about 8-10 persons hailing from Bihar and north-eastern states.

Modus operandi
The accused revealed that one of the agency members would approach the newspapers in the city to distribute pamphlets. If somebody approached them for domestic help, they would provide the party with a maid, with an agreement between the agency and the owner of the house for a year's period. The member then fled with the commission as well as advance salary. At the first opportunity available, the maid would also flee away with cash and other valuables from the house.
