The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has dismissed reports claiming changes in LPG refill booking timelines, stating that no such revisions have been made and existing rules remain in place.
The clarification comes amid the circulation of misleading information on social media and some reports suggesting new waiting periods for LPG refills, which triggered confusion among consumers.
In an official statement, the Ministry categorically denied claims that refill timelines had been altered for different categories of consumers. It reiterated that the current system continues unchanged.
As per existing norms, LPG refill booking timelines remain at 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas, regardless of the type of connection.
The Ministry urged citizens not to believe or share unverified information that could lead to unnecessary concern.
Authorities noted that misinformation had led to instances of panic booking in certain regions. The government appealed to consumers to avoid such practices, emphasising that there is no shortage of LPG supply in the country.
Officials confirmed that adequate stocks are available and distribution systems are functioning normally across India.
Reassuring the public, senior officials stated that all refineries are currently operating at high capacity with sufficient crude oil inventories. There is also adequate availability of petrol and diesel across the country.
The government highlighted that domestic LPG production has been stepped up to meet demand, especially in the wake of global uncertainties arising from the West Asia conflict.
While acknowledging that geopolitical developments have impacted global supply chains, officials clarified that India has managed to maintain stable fuel availability.
They confirmed that multiple LPG cargo shipments are already lined up, and there have been no reports of shortages at LPG distributorships. Deliveries are continuing smoothly despite isolated cases of panic-driven demand spikes.
The government is also accelerating the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections. Authorities have directed city gas distribution entities to provide PNG access to institutions such as schools, hostels, community kitchens, and Anganwadi centres within five days where infrastructure is available.
Officials noted that around 7,500 new connections were provided in a single day across multiple regions, with nearly 60 lakh households identified as eligible for PNG access.
To ensure market stability, enforcement agencies have intensified action against illegal practices. Thousands of inspections and raids have been conducted across states, leading to the seizure of cylinders, filing of FIRs, and arrests.
Oil marketing companies have also issued show-cause notices to distributors found violating norms, with some facing suspension.
Reiterating its stance, the government emphasised that there is no cause for concern regarding fuel availability. Citizens have been advised to rely only on official sources for updates and avoid spreading rumours.
The clarification aims to restore public confidence and ensure smooth functioning of fuel supply systems during a period of heightened global uncertainty.
