Being the son of senior NCP leader Vasant Davkhare gave son Prabodh unhindered access to the fitness programme the Mumbai police follows. And the picture didn't look particularly happy, admits Prabodh, proprietor of Healthworks India gym, Thane's latest fitness hotspot.
Crisis management: After 26/11, it was quite clear that our cops were unfit. The timing couldn't have been better alligned for Prabodh to introduce his special fitness programmes for police and military officials. "Based on the prototype followed by cops in the US, it includes rigorous stamina-building exercises; three days dedicated to kickboxing, another three to power yoga. I'm not promising 6-pack results, but my aim is to help the police shed their potbellied image," he says. With several incidents of depression reported, some even leading to suicides, he feels yoga can play a vital role in relaxation. A tailor-made diet plan will ensure they sport a healthy mind and body.
Members of the police and military (even retired officials), can walk in and avail a 35% discount on the annual membership fee of Rs 13,000. "I was tempted to make it free but how can you value something that comes free?" he smiles. His share of the profit will go to the police welfare fund.
Gym for nana-nani: Health care of senior citizens was another area of concern. Priced at Rs 7,999 a year (monthly programmes available too), the exercise routine and diet chart is designed for each senior member, after taking age, blood sugar and body metabolism into account.
MP and He-Man of Bollywood Dharmendra who dropped in to launch the programme said, "I remember how I built my muscles by drawing water from the well, and working in farms in Punjab. I am glad things are different now."u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
