A bomb threat alert was triggered aboard a flight from Ahmedabad to Hyderabad after a 12-year-old girl allegedly told a fellow student that there was a bomb on the aircraft, officials said on Sunday. The threat later turned out to be a prank.

The Class 7 student was returning to Hyderabad with other students and teachers on Saturday after a school trip when she made the remark. A cabin crew member who overheard the conversation alerted the pilot, prompting a security alert, a police official said.

Following standard security protocols, the aircraft was thoroughly checked after landing at Rajiv Gandhi International (RGIA) Airport in Hyderabad. No suspicious objects were found, the official said, PTI reported.

As the girl is a minor, no case was registered. Her teachers counselled her following the incident, the official added.

"She unknowingly said it and did not have any intention of making a threat as such," the official said.

Hoax bomb scare at Kolkata Airport; nothing found after thorough search

Earlier in October, the authorities of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata received a hoax bomb threat mail, following which, there was panic within the airport premises for a brief period.

A thorough search was launched at the airport premises by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel immediately after receiving the mail. As per the latest information available, no suspicious objects have been detected by the CISF personnel so far, IANS reported.

Sources aware of the development said that a threatening email was sent to the airport authorities this afternoon where it was claimed that bombs were stocked at some places inside the airport premises.

As soon as the email was received, the authorities alerted the CISF jawans who are in-charge of the security arrangement at the airport.

Accordingly, the CISF personnel began a thorough search operation within the airport premises even though it was initially believed that some false information might have been sent. However, the authorities were unwilling to take any risk in terms of security and launched a search, IANS reported.

Sources said that efforts are also being made to identify the person or persons responsible for the hoax bomb threat email. The help of cyber experts has also been sought to find the source of the threatening email sent to the airport.
