IBM trainee techie Darshana Devidas Tongare (21), who was murdered on Friday night in Bavdhan, had complained to her parents about blank calls she had been receiving from an unidentified person since January.
The police, who are still trying to get their hands on the suspect, refused to divulge any details of the "boy" they think made the calls, saying it would hamper investigations.
Police appealDeputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Dnyaneshwar Chavan said, "The Tongare family was aware of Darshana getting blank calls from an unknown person. Darshana had also expressed irritation about these frequent unwanted calls."
Chavan on Sunday had ruled out the robbery motive behind the murder. Now, he refused to divulge the identity of the unknown caller who had troubled Darshana.
"It will affect the investigations," he said.
DCP Chavan has also appealed to women facing this kind of harassment that they should immediately come forward and register a police complaint, which can act as a deterrent to major crimes in the future.
Sketch not possibleSoftware engineer Niranjan Badde, who was passing by on a motorcycle when Darshana was stabbed and stopped to help when he heard her cries, had chased the assailant but could not see his face.
As a result, the police have not been able to prepare a sketch of the assailant.
Police Inspector Nandkishore Bhosale-Patil said, "We have got leads and investigations from all angles are going on, but no one has been arrested in this case yet."
Arrest rumour Rumours of the murder suspect having surrendered to the Jalgaon police and confessed his involvement in Darshana's murder were doing the rounds yesterday morning.
DCP Chavan scotched the rumours. "If there had been an arrest, the Jalgaon police would have surely shared the information with us," said Chavan.
