India dismisses Pakistan's Kashmir reference at UNSC meeting on Israel-Palestine situation

India has said it will treat Pakistan's reference to Kashmir during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on the Israel-Gaza situation with the disregard it believes it deserves. India will not dignify this reference with a response. This response came from India's Deputy Permanent Representative at the UN, Ambassador R. Ravindra, following Pakistan's UN envoy Munir Akram's mention of Kashmir during the Security Council meeting on the Middle East situation.

As the United Nations (UN) resumed debating the Israel-Hamas conflict on Tuesday, Pakistan urged the world body to play its role in resolving "global disputes, like Palestine and Kashmir".

In a message released on the UN's 79th anniversary, Pakistan's UN envoy Munir Akram said the organisation "needs to reinforce its capacity to respond to the old and new threats to international peace and security."

"I would treat these remarks with the contempt they deserve and not dignify them with a response in the interest of time," stated Ravindra, referring to the remarks by certain delegations about Jammu and Kashmir.

Prior to this, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken addressed the Security Council meeting, emphasizing that all acts of terrorism are unlawful and unjustifiable, whether they are carried out by groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based terror outfit, or by Hamas, targeting people in places such as Mumbai or Kibbutz Beeri.

"We must affirm the right of any nation to defend itself and to prevent such horror from repeating itself. No member of this Council, no nation in this entire body could or would tolerate the slaughter of its people," said Blinken.

Blinken stressed that all acts of terrorism are unlawful and unjustifiable, irrespective of where they occur, whether it's in Nairobi, Bali, Istanbul, Mumbai, New York, or Kibbutz Be'eri. He specifically mentioned terrorist groups like ISIS, Boko Haram, Al Shabaab, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hamas, highlighting that acts of terrorism are unlawful and unjustifiable regardless of the victims' faith, ethnicity, nationality, or any other reason.

Blinken also emphasized the Security Council's responsibility to denounce member states that support or aid groups like Hamas or any other terrorist organization that carries out such horrific acts. His remarks appeared to reference the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, which were carried out by the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.
