For the first time, exclusive placement sessions will be held for non-regulars and students from backward classes

For all those excluded from the benefits of University placements, here is some good news. Delhi University's central placement cell (CPC) this year, for the first time, will extend job offers to the non-regulars, including students from School of Open Learning (SOL), Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board (NCWEB), and the socially backward categories. This has come as welcome news for students who otherwise are affiliated to DU, yet could not avail the benefits of the placements offered by big companies to those enrolled with the placement cell unit.

What's the programme?
The placement session for the present final-year students will begin October 18 onwards, while the last date for the students to register for the programme is October 15. In a unanimous decision, the Dean, students' welfare, has decided to rope in companies for conducting placement sessions for the left-out students on a separate day.

The programme, apart from SOL, NCWEB, will include students from physically handicap (PH) category, OBC and SC/ST. "We are doing it for the first time as students from the backward categories are always left out of the job sector. They too study under the same umbrella, why not have the same benefits then?" said Dy Dean, students welfare, Gulshan Sawhney.u00a0"We have spoken to two companies for providing job offers to the said students as of now. As these students cannot compete with the mainstream, they will have the session on a separate date, exclusively for them," he added.

However, the date for the same has not been finalised yet, it will be conducted before end of this month.
The CPC has been approached by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and other companies, like HCL, HDFC Bank, Wipro, Dell, Gandhi Fellowship, among others. Last year, the CPC had placed more than a thousand students.
