A police case has been registered after stone-pelting between two groups during a household Ganesh immersion procession in Maharashtra's Jalgaon district left two to three people injured, officials said, according to an IANS report.
The incident took place late on Sunday in Raver town when an argument over the blocking of a road escalated into a confrontation between two groups. The dispute occurred while a family was proceeding with the immersion of a household Ganesh idol.
According to preliminary information, the disagreement began over the obstruction of a road. The argument subsequently intensified, with members of the two groups allegedly pelting stones at each other.
The incident was reported from the Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Nagar and Raza Colony areas of Raver. Police were alerted following the confrontation and teams reached the spot to bring the situation under control.
Officials said two to three people sustained injuries during the stone-pelting. Further details about the nature of the injuries were not immediately available.
The Raver police registered a case after 11 p.m. in connection with the incident. The case includes charges related to rioting and stone-pelting, along with alleged violations under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, officials said.
Police have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances that led to the confrontation and determine the sequence of events during the Ganesh immersion procession.
Authorities are also working to identify those allegedly involved in the stone-pelting and establish their individual roles in the incident.
Following the clash, a tense calm prevailed in the affected areas, officials said. Additional police personnel have been deployed in the locality as a precautionary measure to prevent any further escalation and maintain law and order.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident and gather information about what led to the dispute between the two groups.
