Jharkhand talks fail to end stir over alleged exam leaks

Talks between the Jharkhand government and student groups protesting alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations failed to break the deadlock on Saturday.

A five-member government panel met the faction led by JLKM leader Devendra Nath Mahto, whose hunger strike entered its seventh day, followed by separate meetings with delegations of the Congress-backed NSUI, Adivasi Chhatra Sangh (ACS), and Jharkhand Chhatra Morcha (JCM). "Demands of protesting aspirants are genuine; we will place these before CM Hemant Soren," state minister Sanjay Prasad Yadav said.

JCM submitted five demands, including the cancellation of the 14th JPSC Examination. NSUI sought a CID probe into all JPSC and JSSC examinations under suspicion within 90 days and the creation of a Jharkhand Testing Agency. ACS demanded that tribal and regional languages be included as qualifying papers.

The government's meeting with Mahto's JPSC-JSSC Candidates' Forum lasted about two hours. A forum leader said the government had assured them of a quick decision, but the protest would continue until all demands, including cancellation of the 14th JPSC examination, were met.
