In a major breakthrough, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Thursday seized 13 kg of ganja estimated to be worth Rs 6.50 lakh from Visakhapatnam-Banaras Express at Ranchi station, an official statement said on Thursday.

The official statement further highlighted that RPF personnel spotted an unattended and suspicious green trolley bag under seat no. 37 of Coach no. A-2 of the train on Wednesday, as per PTI.

Following a thorough search, the personnel found several packets wrapped in brown plastic wrappers, which prima facie appeared to be ganja.

The incident was immediately reported to Assistant Security Commissioner RPF Muri, who reached the spot, and the trolley bag was checked after following all legal formalities.

13 kg of narcotic substances seized

A total of 13 packets weighing a total of 13 kg of narcotic substance (ganja/marijuana) were seized from the green trolley bag, worth approximately Rs 6.50 lakh, the statement said.

After completing all legal formalities, the seized ganja was handed over to GRP/Ranchi for further legal action.

Two women among 10 held after MBVV cops bust drug racket in Mira Road

In a different scenario, the Mira-Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police on Thursday, May 7, arrested ten persons, including two women, after busting a major mephedrone (MD) drug-trafficking racket operating in Mira Road and Mumbai, officials said.

According to the police, the action was carried out by the MBVV Crime Branch, Unit 4, following an investigation into a narcotics case registered at Naya Nagar Police Station in the Thane district of Maharashtra.

The police said that the operation went on for around a month to dismantle the entire racket

It said that the probe initially began on April 4, 2026, after officers raided a flat at Cheda Adarsh Building in Naya Nagar, Mira Road East. During the search, police seized 1 kilogram and 324 grams of MD drugs valued at Rs 2.66 crore from the residence of a woman identified as Firdos Arbaz Qureshi.

Investigators said that the seized narcotics allegedly belonged to her husband, Arbaz Vakil Qureshi. Following the recovery, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

During further investigation, police arrested several accused from different areas of Mumbai, Mira Road and Gujarat for their alleged involvement in the drug supply network.
