Delhiites are playing their favourite games - Farmville and Mafia Wars - on Facebook for a more noble reason now. Each time a gamer plays these games and donates the earned chips and points on the social networking website, these are translated into monetary and material support for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

Many gaming applications, websites and game manufacturers have come forward to help those affected by the 7.0 magnitude temblor.

Ashish Singh, a Software professional, said: "I play poker and Farmville everyday on social networking site Facebook. I noticed an option on both the games to contribute to quake-hit people and I thought now is my time to contribute. I have given all the chips I have earned on poker to help earthquake victims."u00a0

Zynga Game Network, makers of Mafia War, poker and Farmville have given their users an option to help quake victims. All you have to do is log on to the games and you can buy special limited edition goods to donate. The company claims one hundred percent of the profit from the proceeds will go to emergency aid for victims of the 7.0 magnitude Haiti earthquake.

"When you play Zynga Poker, you can buy a special chip package in exchange for a rare premium item.u00a0 One can even donate directly to the World Flood Program.u00a0 The WFP has set up an emergency response team.u00a0 They intend to take relief items, including food, to the victims of Haiti. You can visit the Zynga website at https://www.zynga.com and hit the donate button," a company official said.

Priyadarshi Shekhar, 22, an engineering student and avid gamer said: "I wanted to help the quake victims in Haiti but had no means to do so. Therefore, I am playing Halo 3, which will in turn help the people of the Caribbean nation. I was touched by the immense damage to life and property and I feel I am doing my little bit to help those affected."

Delhi-based entrepreneur Siddharth Sabikhi said, "What could be better than this. I love gaming and now gaming for a social cause makes me feel proud. I have even asked my friends to play and do their bit for quake victims. This is the only way in which we could help the needy while sitting in Delhi."u00a0u00a0
Bungie, developers of the game Halo, are requesting gamers to merely hop online and change their icon to a special emblem of support in order to raise money for the cause.

For every person that participates, Bungie will donate ten cents to the Red Cross, up to $77,000. In order to participate, hop on one of the multiplayer modes in Halo 3 or ODST.

Poker players and online sites are also stepping up to help the victims of the recent tremor-hit nation.
PokerStars is offering charity "dummy" tournaments that range from $1 to $1,000. They plan to match the donations and all money generated will be given to the Red Cross. On PokerStars, players can either donate to the account "Haiti Fund" or enter the "Haiti Earthquake Relief". PokerStars claimed that thousands have already donated and expressed hope to do all it can to help to the people of Caribbean nation.
