Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
Private bus operators in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Tuesday said that they may have to increase the prices by around 30 per cent due to the diesel price rise.
The move comes in the backdrop of rising fuel prices across the country. Pushkar Luley, joint secretary of the Bus Owners and Travel Agents Welfare Association, highlighting the problems of transporters, said, "The diesel price is hovering around Rs 100 per litre, and the difficulties in getting diesel have forced bus owners to ply fewer buses," reported the PTI.
He further said, "Around 125 buses ply between Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and various other cities in Maharashtra and neighbouring states."
Luley, while highlighting that diesel prices have surged by nearly Rs 7.50 per litre in May amid the West Asia conflict, also added, "We require an average of 300 litres of diesel per day per bus. Though our dealers are fixed, we now need to check the availability of stock. The buses have not stopped plying completely, but we sometimes have to accommodate passengers in other buses if there are empty seats," said Luley, according to the PTI.
"Ticket prices have not increased yet, but looking at the situation, we will have to raise the prices by at least 30 per cent," he added.
Private bus operators will hold a meeting in a day or two and announce a price hike, he said, adding that the government should reduce the taxes on fuel so as to give relief to travellers.
Petrol and diesel prices were increased again across the country on Monday, marking the fourth hike in fuel rates within two weeks amid rising global crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
Amid the rising fuel prices, Mumbai continued to record some of the highest fuel prices among major cities. Petrol prices in the financial capital increased by Rs 2.72 per litre to Rs 111.21 per litre, while diesel prices rose by Rs 2.81 to Rs 97.83 per litre.
In Kolkata, petrol prices climbed by Rs 2.87 per litre to Rs 113.51 per litre, while diesel prices reached Rs 99.82 per litre after the latest hike.
Chennai also witnessed a fresh increase, with petrol now retailing at Rs 107.77 per litre and diesel at Rs 99.55 per litre.
In Bengaluru, petrol prices rose by around Rs 2.60 per litre to Rs 110.93 per litre, while diesel increased to Rs 98.80 per litre.
Hyderabad recorded some of the highest rates among major cities, with petrol priced at Rs 115.69 per litre and diesel at Rs 103.82 per litre.
