NCP (SP) leader Ankush Kakade urged the on-duty election officials to take immediate action over the issue.
An alleged technical malfunction in an electronic voting machine (EVM) led to brief tension at a polling booth in Pune on Wednesday during the municipal election voting process.
Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Ankush Kakade claimed the EVM malfunctioned while he was casting his vote and demanded that a formal complaint be registered with election officials. According to Kakade, when he pressed the button corresponding to candidate number four, the indicator light on the machine did not turn on.
After the incident, Kakade refused to leave the polling centre, stating that he would remain on the premises until his complaint was officially recorded. He questioned the on-duty election officials and insisted on immediate action.
The incident caused a brief commotion at the polling station, creating concern among voters present at the time. Election officials intervened promptly and brought the situation under control, allowing the voting process to continue.
Election authorities have stated that the EVM-related complaint will be investigated according to established procedures.
Meanwhile, the administration remains on high alert to ensure that polling across Pune proceeds smoothly, with security arrangements tightened at all polling centres to prevent untoward incidents.
