The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has imposed a 14-day ban on public gatherings, rallies, processions and protest marches across the city, citing administrative and public order concerns.
The move comes as the civic administration also introduced a range of fuel-saving measures in response to rising petrol and diesel prices.
PMC departments have been instructed to minimise the use of official vehicles and avoid unnecessary travel.
Officials have been asked to carefully plan work-related journeys, reduce repeated trips and keep vehicle movement to the minimum required for administrative work.
According to civic authorities, the measures are aimed at reducing fuel expenditure and easing the growing financial pressure on the administration.
The administration has advised officers and employees to adopt carpooling wherever possible.
Staff members have also been encouraged to use public transport for official duties whenever practical in order to lower fuel consumption.
Several PMC departments have been directed to conduct meetings, training programmes and internal discussions online to reduce travel-related costs and improve efficiency.
Officials believe virtual meetings will help save both time and fuel expenses.
Meanwhile, Amitesh Kumar clarified that there is no lockdown in Pune.
He stated that the "Jamavbandi" restrictions are preventive measures mainly introduced for crowd control during the festival period.
According to police orders cited in local media reports, protests, public meetings, demonstrations, marches and similar activities will not be permitted while the restrictions remain in force.
