Maharashtra Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said the state's new Maharashtra Land Bank digital system will help speed up infrastructure development by making government land information easier to access and ensuring the availability of land for compensatory afforestation.
The Maharashtra Land Bank is a unified digital dashboard that brings together information on land owned by various state government departments on a single platform, news agency IANS reported. The system was officially launched following Tuesday's Cabinet meeting.
Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Vikas Kharge, Additional Chief Secretary (Forest) Milind Mhaiskar, and Settlement Commissioner Shailesh Naval gave a detailed presentation on the dashboard, according to a government statement.
The system is intended to simplify the process of identifying, verifying and allocating government land for various requirements. It brings land records from different departments and administrative levels onto a common digital platform.
"The system supports optimal land utilisation, rapid department-specific land mapping, reduced decision-making delays, and enhanced administrative transparency. Furthermore, it enables comprehensive performance reviews via department-, district-, taluka-, and village-wise data aggregation and progress tracking," Fadnavis said.
The government said fragmented land records have previously made it difficult to obtain timely information on land availability, its status and area, existing use and violations of allocation conditions.
"As an integrated digital framework for data-driven management of public land, the initiative synthesises land records, physical site inspections, GIS analysis, and MIS reporting to render state land governance efficient, transparent, and swift. Previously, fragmented land records across multiple administrative levels created hurdles in accessing timely information regarding land availability, current status, area, usage, and conditions of allocation violations. The Maharashtra Land Bank integrated digital system was specifically engineered to resolve these bottlenecks by offering a single, updated repository," the statement said.
The system includes features such as record verification, on-site inspection and validation, an integrated data repository, taluka-level access, GIS-based analytics and a digital land requisition process.
According to the government, officials will be able to conduct preliminary checks of survey numbers, total land area and classifications using e-Pherphat (electronic mutation records) and existing documents.
The system will also facilitate field inspections to verify the physical status of land, identify unallocated areas, and detect violations of allocation conditions. Data from different sources will be consolidated into a secure central repository.
The Land Bank will provide dedicated portal logins to Tehsildars to update the allocation status of government land and Occupant Class-II (Bhogwatdar Varg-2) land, as well as record violations of allocation conditions.
"The location-aware mapping will be instrumental to conduct spatial analysis of available land parcels and pending allocation matters. End-to-end online workflows for government departments will be helpful to submit requisitions, register applications, and undergo scrutiny, verification, and approval. The portal also features real-time site inspection logging complete with GPS coordinates, timestamps, and date stamps," the statement said.
The government said the system is expected to help departments identify suitable land faster, improve monitoring and reduce delays in land-related decision-making.
