The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) on Friday announced the results of the "Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Clean and Beautiful Bus Stand Campaign," aimed at improving cleanliness, passenger amenities, and infrastructure at bus depots in the state.
Maharashtra Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik said that the campaign has led to measurable improvements in the upkeep and management of bus stands, adding that the initiative is aimed at making every facility more passenger-friendly and efficient.
As per the 2025-26 evaluation, the Baramati bus stand in Pune division secured the top position in the âA' class category with a score of 97 points, earning a prize of Rs 1 crore. Officials said the achievement reflects sustained efforts to improve cleanliness, discipline, and passenger services at the facility.
In the âB' class category, the Lakhani bus stand in the Bhandara division emerged as the top performer with 97 points, while in the âC' class category, the Akole bus stand in the Ahilyanagar division secured first rank with 98 points.
As per the official statement, "These stations demonstrated notable improvements in hygiene, maintenance, and passenger facilities."
The MSRTC said a total prize pool of Rs 3 crore will be awarded to 54 bus stands across Maharashtra that performed well in the annual assessment. A prize distribution ceremony will be held in Mumbai on June 1, coinciding with the 78th Foundation Day of the State Transport Corporation.
According to officials, several bus stands across different divisions, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Nashik and Amravati, also secured top ranks within their respective regions.
The campaign assessed bus stands on multiple parameters, including cleanliness, toilet maintenance, beautification, greenery development, passenger amenities, and employee participation.
The officials further said that several locations introduced local-level innovations to enhance the travel experience for commuters.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarnaik said the initiative is not merely a competition but a sustained movement to improve service standards across the transport network. He added that well-performing bus stands should serve as models for others to replicate.
Officials said the campaign has contributed to improving the public image of MSRTC and strengthening passenger trust through visible upgrades in infrastructure and service quality across the state.
