The Pavana River, which supplies drinking water to Pimpri-Chinchwad city, has once again fallen victim to heavy pollution. On Friday morning, around the Kejubai Bandara near Thergaon Boat Club, the river was seen covered in thick layers of foam, raising serious concerns among residents and environmental activists.

Mid-day had already highlighted the issue several times in the past as well.

Just a few days ago, MP Srirang Barne had directed the administration to take urgent measures to curb pollution in the Pavana River. However, today's incident suggests that the administration has paid little attention to those instructions.

This is not the first time foam has been seen at this location. Earlier, investigations had revealed that chemical-laden wastewater released from nearby industrial units located a short distance away from the river was responsible for creating such foam. Action had been taken against some units at that time, yet the situation appeared unchanged.

Furthermore, the environmentalists warn that the contaminated water is putting aquatic life at serious risk. All eyes are now on the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation's Environment Department to see what action it will take against the polluting industries and how soon the escalating crisis will be addressed.
