A Visiting professor at the MP Birla Institute of Management was cheated of his laptop by a person who seems to have planned the theft meticulously, even using the Internet to obtain the victim's phone number.
A Visiting professor at the MP Birla Institute of Management was cheated of his laptop by a person who seems to have planned the theft meticulously, even using the Internet to obtain the victim's phone number.
Suhasan Reddy, a native of Andhra Pradesh, filed a case with the Ashok Nagar police after the theft, in which he also lost important software files.
In his complaint he said he was cheated by an unknown person, who had asked him to make a web design for his company.
Reddy is a web designer and agreed to meet the prospective client at a hotel.

Reddy said the culprit had taken his phone number from his Google account and called him to 18 Woods Inn Business Hotel at Wood Street.
On the telephone, conman said Reddy should meet him in the 18 Woods-Inn-Business hotel. When he went to the hotel, the conman invited him in and took him to a room to discuss the web design he wanted.

The unknown man said he was extremely happy with Reddy's work, offered him snacks and said he had to show the designs to his parents.
He took away the laptop, ostensibly to show the designs to his parents, saying he would be back within 20 minutes.
Reddy sat in the hotel room waiting for him to return. He waited from 11 am to 2.30 pm before deciding he had been cheated and walked out of the room. He asked the hotel manager about the person he had met.

The hotel manager said the man hadn't given the room fare and they didn't know where he was from and what he did.
Now Reddy was sure he had been cheated. He paid the room fare of Rs 4,000 and went straight to the Ashok Nagar police station to file a complaint.
Speaking to MiD DAY, Reddy said, "I was cheated by that man, they must have got my number from my Google account and fooled.
I also lost important files related to web designing, and some of my other documents and academic texts. It was a bad day to me."
The Ashoknagar police have filed a cheating case and have started the investigations.
Vijay Hadagali, sub-inspector in-charge of the case, said, "We are investigating the case but till now we have not been able to find the accused. The thing is, Bangalore is seeing more and more such cases these days."
