Argentinean jazz drummer and percussionist Minino Garay can be easily called a world musician. This is because his music is not bound by his birthplace, Argentina but has been nurtured by rich musical traditions from Brazil, Cuba, Africa with bits of Parisian jazz thrown in. And this weekend Minino will be in town to give us a taste of his tango meets jazz meets a whole lotta other genres of music.
Garay will play the drums and cajon and will be in performance with band members Pajaro Canzani on the guitar, Bobby Rangell on saxophone and flute and Carlos aka "el Tero" Buschini on the bass. Except Minino, who was born in Cordoba in Argentina, all the others hail from Paris. Along with tango, Minino trained in dance styles like milonga, chacarera, candomble of Uruguay and cumbia of Colombia. Minino's trip to Paris at the age of 24 changed his musical life forever in 1989.

Here he experimented with every possible kind of musical and dance influences and created his own little Argentina in the heart of Paris. He describes his kind of music as Spanish meets American and Argentina meets Peruvian along with Parisian and European influences. Minino is also known to sing lustily to lyrics penned by his mother.u00a0u00a0u00a0

Directed by Amit Kulkarni and Namrta Dhar, the English play On The Swing is a take on relationships in contemporary society. Inspired by true life stories, the play shows the lives and emotions of youngsters, who are trapped in the crossfire between being modern and maintaining tradition. Life changes for Reema Banerjee, a young woman from a small town in Howrah when she reaches the capital of India. The big city shocks her and whenever she is worried or upset, Reema tries finding solace on the swing. Through lucid narrative and a comic touch, On The Swing promises to bring forward the battle of prejudices that many young hearts and minds indulge in.

Music Mechanics, a workshop conducted by Nathaniel School of Music will have the who's who of Indian Rock like percussionist Muthu Kumar, Gaurav, the bassist from Raghu Dixit Project, Ryan Colaco from Kryptos among others. From technical, instrument and tool driven techniques on playing and production to soft skill talks on presentation, stage presence and the business side of music, the six-session-long workshop aims to clear up the initial hiccups that trouble amateur musicians before stepping into the real world.
