Joseph Heller's novel Catch-22 introduced us to a paradoxical phrase that is now an idiomatic term for a 'no-win situation'. But for the 22 dancers graduating from Terence Lewis Dance Foundation Scholarship Trust (TLDFST), Catch-22 will be their final masterpiece, a performance that will showcase the skills and talent that they mastered in their three-year intensive training course.

"A Catch-22 situation arises when things that do not completely fit the puzzle, come together," says Terence. "Similarly these 22 dancers will juxtapose duets, trios and quintets in a captivating mesh of contradictions, situations, characters and emotions.
You will see a culmination of influences from varied dance forms Kathak, Contemporary,u00a0 Jazz, Kalarippayattu in a way that has never been seen before."
Among the eight pieces that these young dancers will perform, you can spot snatches of sibling rivalry, a show where three dead girls dance in a contorted manner as they attempt to live a mortal life like they did on earth, three girls dancing on the auditorium's walls, two boys bonding over a girl they once loved and two buff boys who think brawn is all you need to get the girl.

"There's no acting or dialogue these characters communicate through their dance and body language," explains Terence. "But you need to be a perceptive audience to figure these nuances."
Remembering Biru a dual genius gone too soon

Those who have watched Bireshwar Gautam perform live would remember the sight of the best in Classical dance and music rolled into one, for the rest of their lives. Biru as he was fondly called was born on the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami but died a tragic death last year.

Paying tribute to the Kathak dancer and Thumri and Dadra singer, Kathak Darpan (Biru's institution) and cultural organisation Udayan have organised a performance. It will kick off with a documentary on the gifted dancer, followed by talks by singers Sushila Rani and Shubha Mudgal.
Three of Biru's Thumri contemporaries, and students whom he personally trained will perform at the tribute. Astad Deboo will take over the stage for his version of a homage as well.
