Apart from the idols commonly found at pandals all over the city during Ganesh Chaturthi, this gallery stocks some unusual ones of the beloved Elephant God. There's one that depicts him with a side parting, pulling the ear of a presumably mischievous mouse, reaching out for modaks. In what appears to be part of a series, you will find another depicting the deity resting on his tummy, supervising the lessons of the student mouse. At Satguru's exhibition-cum-sale of Ganeshas, you can find depictions of the deity, garlanded and bejewelled in mediums, including wood, semi-precious stone, Meenakari work, 24K gold, American diamonds, crystal, terracotta and glass, offering blessings and holding a modak. A regular feature at Satguru's art store since the past 27 years, this is also where you will find a modern-day deity busy at work on the computer.u00a0

Drawing water from the well, harvesting, celebrating birth or a wedding, hunting, dancing, drying clothes or just taking a walk simple everyday activities like these find their way into Warli paintings, an ancient folk art tradition by the Maharashtrian tribe that goes by the same name. Using geometric designs, including triangles, circles, squares, dots and crooked lines to depict humans, animal figures, houses and crops, these uni-dimensional stick drawings can add a touch of ethnic chic to bags, wallets, greeting cards or artefacts. Learn the art from rural tribal artists who have kept the tradition alive, in a one-day workshop organised by Rangvalli Parivar at Thane. They can also do up one of the walls in your home with their monochromatic designs.

When teacher, performer and choreographer Leela Samson goes up on stage, she takes over the nuances of Bharatanatyam and moulds them into a detailed, exquisite expression of herself. Influenced by Rukmini Devi, the founder of Kalakshetra (the institute for the classical arts), Samson accommodates dance styles learnt at the academy with her own experiments with the art form. Samson will present a recital titled Reflections on my Journey, and we suggest you allow her to lead the way.
