Green cause: Shivshankar roped in artist B K S Verma to design the special wedding invite |
B N Shivshankar, who runs a trust that works for a greener Bangalore, is well known for the three-acre Mukthidama that houses memorials of greats like G V Iyer, B V Karanth, Ramakrishna Hegde, Soundarya and Majoru00a0 Sandeep Unnikrishnan in the form of trees.
Shivshankar roped in artist B K S Verma to design the special wedding invite which depicts the forest goddess and clouds calling to save trees. The invite also has statistics that highlight the value of trees.
"The table in the invite has figures on air pollution a tree checks, a tree's contribution to soil fertility, the number of birds and animals it shelters and the fruits and flowers it gives," said Shivshankar.
Gifting green
He will also gift saplings of gulmohar, rose and neem to guests. About a thousand will be distributed at the reception and a similar number kept aside for the wedding day. Students of Visvesvaraya College of Engineering will help distribute them.
"It's a great initiative," said environmentalist A N Yellappa Reddy. "Spreading a messageu00a0 like thisu00a0 helps to build a greener Bangalore," he said.
