The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested five persons in connection with the NEET UG paper leak case, while searches are going on across multiple locations, official said on Wednesday even as the agency visited the National Testing Agency (NTA) headquarters to collect documents related to the NEET UG examination.
The agency has arrested three individuals from Jaipur, one from Gurugram, and one from Nashik, while several other suspects are being questioned in various cities and may be arrested later, they added.
Accused Shubham Khairnar (in orange) in CBI custody
Among those arrested, 30-year-old Shubham Khairnar from Nashik is being brought to Delhi for further questioning after a local magistrate court granted the CBI a transit remand for him. Nashik Police detained Khairnar on Tuesday following a request from Rajasthan Police.
The NEET (UG) 2026 exam held on May 3 by the National Testing Agency (NTA) was cancelled on May 12 amid allegations of paper leak which is now being probed by the CBI.
The origins of a guess paper containing questions similar to those asked in NEET-UG 2026 medical exam were traced to a student from Rajasthan's Sikar pursuing MBBS in Kerala who went on to share it with his friends and a hostel owner, a senior official of the state's Special Operations Group (SOG) said. IG, SOG, Ajay Pal Lamba said the student first received the material from a friend and shared it with others in Sikar. The document subsequently reached several coaching students before the exam that was held on May 3.
The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) and resident doctors, have moved the Supreme Court seeking a complete overhaul of the national testing framework, including the replacement of the NTA with a more robust and autonomous body.
