Shivananda Shivayogi Rajendra Swami is angry at the Chief Minister Yeddyurappa for not showing his gratitude to the mutt after assuming power

While Lingayat mutts are rallying behind Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, a prominent seer from the community has called him unfit to be a leader.

Shivananda Shivayogi Rajendra Swami of Kodi mutt, known for his astrological predictions based on palm leaf inscriptions, is fuming at the CM for not showing gratitude, and blamed him for the mess and misrule in the state.

Quoting ancient scriptures, the swami said, "A mean person should not be the king, if that happens, the misrule prevails. The current situation in the state is a result of that."

He is apparently angry with Yeddyrappa because he has not visited the mutt after becoming CM. The chief minister, on the other hand, is understood to have being scared of losing power if he visits the mutt, as his supporters believe so.

"There is a belief that if a person in power visits Kodi mutt, he will lose power and that is why Yeddyurappa is not going there," said a source close to the CM. "One has to understand his sentiments before misreading him."

Instead of convincing him, this argument has backfired. The swami claims that he was the one who had predicted that Yeddyurappa would be chief minister and he had performed many rituals to make his dreams come true.

"It is nonsense to say one would lose power if he visits the mutt," said Shivakumara Shastri, a close disciple of the swami. "It is holy place and it can only bring one good luck. Yeddyurappa should not forget that he became chief minister with the blessings of holy men including our guru."

This is not the first time that the swami is venting his ire on the chief minister and his supporters. He was miffed with Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje, regarded as a significant other of Yeddyurappa, for forgetting him after taking his blessings, last year.

Amid rumours that Yeddyurappa had a relationship with actress Sruthi, Karandlaje had approached the swami asking for his help in getting rid of the actress.

The chief minister broke off the friendship with Sruthi after the swami had a word with him. Later, Sruthi was embroiled in a controversy after leaving her director husband to have a live-in relationship with a friend. She subsequently and lost her position as chairperson of the Women and Child Development Corporation.

But apparently Karandlaje had forgotten to thank. MiD DAY had earlier carried a report after the swami expressed his displeasure over Shobha and Yeddyurappa.

"We should understand that the politicians are the most ungrateful creatures. I'm not bothered about Yeddyurappa not visiting me. But I want people to know about them, and that's why I am raising my voice."

He also expressed his unhappiness over the other Lingayat swamis supporting Yeddyurappa just because he was from the same community.

"It amounts to vulgar caste politics and swamis of mutts must not be party to it," added. The chief minister was not available for comments.
