Manzoor Sheikh, a member of the Pune Cantonment Board Congress from ward no 8 of Shivaji market area, has been denied bail by additional session judge Sanjay V Patil.

Sheikh and his three accomplices, Sadiq Shaikh, Faiyyaz Sheikh and Adnan Sheikh, are accused of attacking Kadir Memon (38), a police informer, with choppers and hammers on February 19. MiD DAY had reported that Memon was admitted to Sassoon General Hospital with serious injuries.

A relative of Memon said, "The doctors say his condition is serious." An attempt to murder under section 307 was not registered by the police against the four accused. Relatives of Memon say this is because of the clout Sheikh wields in the area. The court has also allowed Manzoor to appeal to the High Court for bail.
